Disclosure and Management of Potential Conflicts of Interest (COI) in Relationships with Industry

Introduction

An effective and principled partnership between faculty members, the school, and industry is critical to realize fully the benefits of biomedical research and ensure continued advances in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of disease.

Policy

In order to be compliant with the accreditation requirements for LCME/CACMS (undergraduate) and CACME (continuing medical education), and to meet expectations from Tri Council and NIH, each faculty of medicine in Canada must have a formalized institutional policy and procedure related to Conflict of Interest disclosure.

In accordance with the Cumming School of Medicine’s Disclosure and Management of Potential Conflicts of Interest in Relationships with Industry, all faculty members have an annual duty to:

  • Disclose potential Conflicts of Interest
  • Mitigate and/or manage any circumstances that could give rise to potential Conflicts of Interest

Conflicts may be real or perceived and can occur in conjunction with your clinical, educational, research, administrative or other activities in the Cumming School of Medicine. Conflicts of Interest may occur when either a faculty member or one of his/her family members has a relationship with industry.

Contact

If you have any questions about the collection or use of Conflict of Interest information, please contact Dr. Jocelyn Lockyer, Senior Associate Dean, Education.
