The 2nd Annual Simulation Education & Research Symposium sponsored by the Office of Postgraduate Medical Education will be held at the Health Sciences Centre at the University of Calgary on October 6, 2016.  This symposium will showcase and encourage future collaborations among educators and researchers with common simulation interests and focus on patient safety.
This is a FREE Event.

Dr. Chirag Shah International Resident Award 2016

Postgraduate Medical Education is pleased to announce the Dr Chirag Shah International Resident Award recipients for 2016.  The $2,000 award was established in 2012 by Dr Shah to assist international medical graduates who are adjusting to life in Canada and to inspire them to give back to their community and contribute to making Canada a better place.

Dr Syeda Abbas is PGY1 in the Pediatrics Program.  Dr Abbas is originally from Pakistan and has a passion for research.  This passion has led to her involvement with the Open Lung Ventilation Strategy team which is gathering data that will help healthcare teams and families to make critical decisions about preterm births.  When Dr Abbas finishes her residency, she plans to do a fellowship in NICU and to enroll in MSc/PhD in Research Methodology or Quality Control.   Dr Abbas is an avid volunteer helping immigrants adjusting to life in Canada.

Dr Hassan Azhari is a PGY1 in Internal Medicine. Dr Azhari is originally from Lebanon and also has a passion for research. He has worked on various projects including one aimed at assessing the health risks and benefits of medical procedures including screening colonoscopy and which made recommendations about risk management guidelines.  Dr Azhari volunteers with the Ovarian Cancer Canada foundation.
