The University of Calgary’s Cumming School of Medicine is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Kelly Burak as the new Associate Dean, Continuing Medical Education & Professional Development (CME&PD). Dr. Burak was appointed Assistant Dean, CME&PD, on September 1, 2016. His new role as Associate Dean will be effective as of January 1, 2017.

Currently, Dr. Burak is Professor of Medicine in the Departments of Medicine and Oncology. He has served as the Director of the Southern Alberta Liver Transplant Clinic since 2001, and was the Director of the Calgary Liver Unit from 2008 to 2016.

For the past two years, he has served as a consultant in the Cumming School of Medicine’s Office of Faculty Development and as the Director of Teaching Innovation for Undergraduate Medical Education, where he has championed the “flipped classroom” model of education delivery.

Dr. Burak is a passionate educator, and is the recipient of numerous teaching awards including the McLeod Distinguished Achievement Award for Teaching in 2007, the Canadian Association of Gastroenterology Young
