Vascular Anesthesia and Perioperative Transesophageal Echocardiography Fellowship

The Vascular Anesthesia and Perioperative Transesophageal Echocardiography Fellowship is a 12-month, advanced clinical training program at the University of Calgary’s Cumming School of Medicine. This program is based at the Peter Lougheed Centre (PLC), home of the Division of Vascular Surgery, additional training sites include the Division of Cardiac Surgery at the Foothills Medical Centre, and Division of Cardiac Sciences Echocardiography Labs at various Calgary hospitals. The fellowship offers a unique opportunity to develop expertise in the perioperative management of patients undergoing complex vascular procedures, with a particular emphasis on intraoperative transesophageal echocardiographic skills to guide hemodynamic management and assist in surgical decision making.

The program integrates intraoperative comprehensive transesophageal echocardiography training, perioperative management of complex vascular patients, and scholarly activity, preparing graduates to serve as leaders in academic and clinical practice. At completion of this fellowship program, they will have obtained approximately 75% of the requisite scans for the NBE Advanced PTEeXAM and will be prepared to write the Advanced PTEeXAM®.  They will be eligible for NBE Basic PTEeXAM® certification at the time of completing the fellowship.
