Details

Date: July 2, 2021

Time: 12:30-4:30pm

Where: Virtual, Zoom

Overview:

Alberta is an amazing place to live and our students, faculty and staff love to get out and explore this amazing province. To celebrate that, this year's Med Zero takes inspiration from a favorite summer passtime camping! So grab your s'mores and join us by the campfire (aka. your computer screen), for an amazing afternoon!

  • Panel discussion with expert Alberta generalists
  • Fire side chats with some of our amazing faculty; hear about their generalism journey and their practice
  • Hands on training in Naloxone administration and suturing.

Dr. Anthony Seto & Dr. Matt Peterson

Suturing Training

Key take aways:

  • Enter at 90°
  • Two throws for the first knot, one throw for the subsequent knots
  • Place the needle driver in BETWEEN the two strings before creating loops (students sometimes place it behind)
  • When tying down the knots, alternate where the short/long end gets pulled towards
  • Consider palming the needle driver rather than having fingers inside the holes

For more information on the safe disposal of sharps please review the City of Calgary webpage - The City of Calgary, Safe Disposal

I think all schools should have a med zero, because I really misunderstood what family med is all about.
