Scholarly Projects for Learners
Research offers medical students and Family Medicine residents the opportunity to explore clinical questions, contribute to evidence-informed care, and develop valuable skills in critical thinking, project management, and knowledge translation. Engaging in research provides opportunities for mentorship, collaboration and conference presentations while helping learners build a strong foundation for lifelong scholarly practice.
Medical students commencing their program in July 2026 will need to confirm their scholarly project and supervisor by November 2026. We encourage medical students to contact potential supervisors as early as possible.
Family Medicine residents will typically complete their scholarly projects over the PGY2 year. We encourage FM residents interested in research to contact potential supervisors as early as possible in PGY1, to ensure that research projects can be completed within the 2-year residency program.
Research Trainees
Several Faculty members in the Department of Family Medicine hold cross-appointments with other Departments that offer graduate programs. As such, some Faculty hold privileges to supervise Masters, PhD or Post-Doctoral trainees. We encourage prospective students interested in working with DFM Faculty to contact potential supervisors at least one year prior to applying to their graduate program, to determine the fit of the supervisory relationship.
