FGA Awards Program
The Foothills Graduate Association (FGA) Awards Program celebrates graduate students who exemplify excellence in research, leadership, advocacy, and community impact across the Foothills campus. These awards aim to recognize students who contribute meaningfully to the graduate student experience while demonstrating dedication to academic, scientific, and community advancement.
Value: $1000 CAD
Established in honour of Professor Emeritus Dr. Jon Meddings for his exceptional leadership and service to the University of Calgary community, this Leadership Award recognizes graduate students who demonstrate outstanding leadership, service, and community engagement across the Foothills Campus.
This award celebrates students who make meaningful contributions to graduate student life through leadership roles, advocacy, volunteerism, student representation, and initiatives that strengthen the Foothills graduate community. Whether through Departmental Graduate Associations, research institutes, committees, mentorship, or other leadership activities, recipients exemplify a sustained commitment to supporting and advancing the graduate student experience.
Applicants are evaluated based on their demonstrated leadership impact, service contributions, and commitment to fostering a stronger and more engaged graduate student community.

The FGA Science Excellence Award recognizes graduate students at the Foothills campus who demonstrate exceptional academic achievement, research excellence, and strong potential for scientific leadership. This award celebrates students whose work reflects innovation, rigor, critical thinking, and meaningful contributions to advancing scientific knowledge and impact.
Applicants are evaluated based on research accomplishments, academic performance, scholarly contributions, and future potential within their field. Students involved in impactful research, publications, presentations, or other scholarly activities are encouraged to apply.

The FGA Wellness and Inclusion Award recognizes graduate students who have demonstrated outstanding leadership and commitment to advancing mental health, wellness, equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility within the Foothills graduate student community.
This award honours students who actively foster supportive, inclusive, and psychologically safe environments through advocacy, mentorship, wellness initiatives, peer support, and community engagement. The award highlights individuals whose efforts create meaningful and lasting positive impact beyond their own academic achievements.
