Physical distancing at UCalgary

Message to the campus community

Physical Distancing

Over the past 16 months, we have all become accustomed to physical distancing in public spaces, with stickers on floors and walls advising us to stay two metres apart. As we move into this next phase of our return to campus, and in alignment with easing of public health restrictions in Calgary and across Alberta, we will also be moving beyond our previous physical-distancing requirements. Signage advising physical distancing in our buildings is currently being removed to reflect the lifting of this requirement in public health measures.

Physical distancing is not being discouraged; however, it is no longer required on campus. This includes public spaces, libraries, work spaces and classrooms. We want everyone in the UCalgary community to feel safe on campus. Please remember that everyone will have slightly different levels of comfort as we move to this new stage.

The biggest single factor in our ability to move beyond physical distancing on campus is vaccination. As of July 23, 75 per cent of all Albertans over the age of 12 have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, while 61.3 per cent of the eligible population are now fully vaccinated.

Vaccines are available on campus

Student Wellness Services and Varsity Pharmacy in the MacEwan Student Centre have vaccinations available by appointment.

Alberta Health Services is also hosting drop-in COVID-19 immunization clinics in Calgary this week at the Telus Convention Centre and Genesis Centre. You can receive a first or second dose, without an appointment, starting today and until Friday, July 30, 2021.

Masks requirements updated

As first mentioned earlier this month, masks are no longer mandatory in all of our buildings, aligning to the latest provincial public health restrictions and easing of the City of Calgary’s mask bylaw. However, please remember that masks are still required in all UCalgary vehicles with more than one person in the vehicle. University faculty, staff and students are also still expected to wear masks when attending medical clinic environments. For more information on UCalgary lifting mandatory mask requirements, please visit this mask FAQ.

COVID cases on campus

As we return to campus this fall, UCalgary will continue to monitor COVID-19 cases in our buildings. The COVID-19 dashboard provides details of the known cases on campus.
