How it works

Contracts must be submitted through CSM legal’s contact management system. You can do this by clicking on the red button at the top of this page. Please note that Internet Explorer 7 or above, and a University of Calgary IT account is required to use the system. If you need help acquiring any of these, refer to the contact section.

Once you submit your contract, CSM legal will:

  • Review, negotiate and finalize the legal terms of the contract
  • Review and approve contract budgets with respect to institutional costs, including overhead
  • Ask the principle investigator (PI) to complete an internal approval form
  • Facilitate all required signatures from designated authorities
  • Provide a fully executed copy of the contract to each party
  • Submit project number request to research accounting for the corresponding contracts

Frequently asked questions

A: In order to access the online tool, you need Internet Explorer 7 or higher, and a University of Calgary IT account. If you need help acquiring these, contact the IT support centre at 403-220-5555 or itsupport@ucalgary.ca.

A: Make sure you have listed yourself as a co-ordinator. If there will be multiple people checking the status of the agreement, they should all be listed as co-ordinators.

A: All funded research is subject to overhead, with the exception of tri-council funded research and philanthropic funds. To determine the exact percentage that should be paid for overhead, please refer to the University of Calgary's overhead procedures. All items in the budget will be subject to the applicable overhead with the exception of fees associated with the research ethics board.

All clinical research studies need to be closed out when archiving is collected before any money can be transferred to the residual project code by RTA. However, CSM Legal is no longer processing closures. For assistance on completing a project closure, please contact cccr@ucalgary.ca.
