In memoriam: Diane Laflamme-McCauley
The University of Calgary is mourning the loss of staff member Diane Laflamme-McCauley who passed away peacefully at home on August 23 after a courageous battle with cancer. She was surrounded by family: her loving husband Ed McCauley, son Alec and her daughter-in-law Christina Haska.
Diane was already a successful graphic and web designer when she first joined the Faculty of Nursing in 2008 as the web and communications specialist. In the early days of the internet and digital design, she built pioneering websites and reports for corporations and community organizations that pushed the envelope for effective communication and functional navigation. She left the faculty in 2010 for California and worked as communications designer for the Office of the Vice-Chancellor at the University of California, Santa Barbara. Happily – for those who were privileged to work with her – she returned to Calgary and nursing in late 2011 where she remained until 2015.
Diane raised the profile of the faculty through her dedication and commitment to her work; she made many friends during her time here who respected and admired her quiet inner strength.
She will be remembered at a Celebration of Life in Ottawa with her family and close friends later in the fall.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to cancer research at the University of Calgary or the Tom Baker Cancer Centre.
