Professor Emeritus receives Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee Medal

Professor Emeritus Nigel Bankes was presented the medal in a ceremony in Calgary on January 12.

Professor Emeritus Nigel Bankes was celebrated for his significant contribution to the province though his long standing academic work in the areas of energy and resources law and policy, and his other community contributions with a Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee Medal on January 12, 2023. 

Nigel was presented the medal by the Honourable Salma Lakhani, Lieutenant Governor of Alberta, on the nomination of Rachael Notley, ECA, MLA, leader of the opposition. 

Created to mark the 70th anniversary of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s accession to the Throne as Queen of Canada, the Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee Medal is a tangible way for Alberta to honour Her Majesty’s service to Canada. The Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee Medal will be awarded to 7,000 Albertans throughout 2022 in recognition of significant contributions to the province.

The Platinum Jubilee Medal program is continuing as planned despite the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, and will conclude on February 5, 2023.
