The Cumming School of Medicine’s Awards and Recognition Committee hosted the eight annual Celebration of Excellence on Wednesday, Feb. 3.

Each year, the event celebrates achievements in teaching and research ranging from early career awards and community honours, to Royal Society of Canada and Canadian Academy of Health Sciences Fellowships. Over 200 faculty members, students and staff attended this year’s event.

The Awards and Recognition Committee was established in 2008. The committee has the principal mandate of identifying and co-ordinating the nomination of individuals for external awards, and, of course celebrating their success.

Dr. Jon Meddings, dean of the Cumming School of Medicine, says recognizing excellence is part of the medical school's ongoing commitment to professional development. Awards and achievements.  "Events like today are a wonderful opportunity to promote our success to the community, to encourage engagement within the school and to celebrate alongside our peers".

V. Wee Yong, PhD, who serves as chair of the awards and recognition committee, encourages his colleagues to keep the nominations coming. “We commit to the highest standards of excellence in research, education and service every day and I look forward to that work being celebrated at this event in the coming years."
