Secure Computing Program

In February 2017, the Cumming School of Medicine introduced a new Secure Computing Program that will allow researchers to collect, store, analyze, share and preserve their research data in one secure environment.

Tiers of storage

At this time, there are three tiers of storage available to researchers.

Tier 1

10 gigabytes (per project), free of charge

Tier 2

1 terabyte (per project), $200 CAD/year

Tier 3

Custom (per project) - anything larger than 1 terabyte (in 1 TB increments), $200 CAD/year/TB

The Secure Computing Program will ultimately provide four additional services - data collection tools, data analysis tools, data sharing, and long-term data storage. The goal is to allow researchers to:

  • Collect and store research data in a secure environment that complies with UCalgary's Information Security Classification Standard and ethics requirements
  • Quickly and easily collaborate with internal and external partners
  • View, analyze and store data for long-term periods
