Job Shadowing/Observerships
Job shadowing is designed to expose students and fellows to clinical practice settings and can be very valuable to those conducting health-related research. This program is meant to bridge the realms of basic science and medical practice. It provides exposure to the clinical practices relating to diseases that students may be researching. Often a few hours of experience can crystallize concepts and realign research goals or procedures.
Policy
An observership can be defined as an experience with a practicing physician in a clinical setting. It is the responsibility of the student to contact physicians and make appropriate arrangements. Students should advise physicians of the Cumming School of Medicine's observership policies and procedures:
Observerships are subject to the requirements of the Alberta Health Services' Job Shadowing (Observational Experience) policy.
An observership is not to be taken during previously scheduled learning events.
