Leah Mercier

Leah has received her BSc in Pharmacology from McGill University. Her thesis work focus is on the ACTBI Trial (Aerobic exercise for the treatment of Chronic symptoms following mild Traumatic Brain Injury), evaluates sub-symptom threshold aerobic exercise for the treatment of Persistent Post-Concussive Symptoms (PPCS). This trial will not only evaluate changes in symptoms and exercise intolerance, but also probe the physiological response to the intervention by evaluating the autonomic function, blood biomarkers, and sleep parameters using actigraphy. Leah’s other research interests include growth hormone deficiency and sleep disturbance following mild traumatic brain injury. Leah is interested in developing patient-centered rehabilitation interventions to return individuals with PPCS to physical activity and to understand the pathophysiology underpinning exercise intolerance in those with PPCS.

Leah is involved in extracurriculars at the University of Calgary and serves on multiple committees. She spends her free time keeping active by cycling and enjoys time with her friends and family.
