Nik grew up in Southern BC and obtained his healthcare aide (HCA) certificate. He worked as an HCA in long-term care homes, hospitals, and mental health facilities. In Dr. Debert’s lab he will be focusing on acute blood biomarkers following sport-related concussion as a member of the Surveillance in High School and Community Sport to REDuce Concussions (SHReD Concussion), lead by Dr. Carolyn Emery. Nik completed his first two years of undergrad at the Medicine Hat College before transferring to the University of Lethbridge where he completed his Bachelor of Science in Neuroscience (Hons) with double major in Psychology. Working in Dr. Masami Tatsuno’s lab, his Honours Thesis involved an electrophysiological investigation of the role of the rodent hippocampus in procedural memory learning. Nik has passions for fitness, community building, and uplifting those around him. Ultimately, Nik's ambition is to develop personalized methods for the treatment of post-concussion syndrome.
