About the Department
The Department of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine at the University of Calgary's Cumming School of Medicine is an academic department dedicated to patient care, education, and research. Our department works in close collaboration with Alberta Precision Laboratories (APL), bringing together expertise across pathology and laboratory medicine to support patient care, advance scientific discovery, and train the next generation of healthcare professionals and scientists.
Department members work across five acute-care hospitals in Calgary: Foothills Medical Centre, Rockyview General Hospital, South Health Campus, Peter Lougheed Centre, and Alberta Children's Hospital, as well as the Arthur J.E. Child Comprehensive Cancer Centre and APL's Diagnostic and Scientific Centre. The department has approximately 125 faculty members. We offer four residency programs and 15 fellowship and advanced specialty training programs.
Through education, research, and quality improvement initiatives, the department contributes to advances in anatomical pathology, laboratory medicine, and patient care.
