Head & Neck Surgery Program

Who We Are

The Head and Neck Surgery Program in Calgary includes a dedicated group of surgeons based mainly at the Foothills Medical Centre (FMC) and the Tom Baker Cancer Centre (TBCC).  This team of surgeons has completed a five-year residency program in Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery or Plastic Surgery, followed by advanced training in the treatment of Head and Neck Cancer.  This team is committed to providing the best care to patients with head and neck cancer.

As surgeons, we work closely with other specialists, including radiation oncologists (specialists that provide radiation treatment), medical oncologists (specialists that provide chemotherapy), pathologists, dentists, oral maxillofacial  surgeons, and radiologists, to ensure that each patient has the appropriate investigations and treatment plan.

What We Do

When a patient is suspected of having a head and neck cancer, they may have their initial encounter with one of the specialists at the Richmond Road Diagnostic and Treatment Centre or in private offices for assessment.  Once the diagnosis of head and neck cancer is confirmed, all patients should be seen and reviewed by the head and neck cancer team at the Tom Baker Cancer Centre (TBCC) before treatment.  Surgery is performed at the Foothills Medical Centre (FMC).  Inpatients are managed in the Intensive Care Unit at the FMC and on Unit 31.

Our program provides care to patients 24 hours a day, every day of the year, and we aim to perform surgery less than three weeks after the completion of assessment.  To accomplish this goal, there is a significant coordination of investigations before treatment.
