Our Mission

To Help Youth Become Health Champions Within their Communities

Our Fundamental Goals

Empowering youth to become leaders in their community while building their capacity as health leaders

Increase awareness and knowledge of effective health promotion with immigrant and refugee youth

Enhance participant capacity in community engagement

Ensure that our program is relevant and designed to meet the continuous and changing needs of immigrant and refugee youth

The 2 Primary Focuses

We believe by focusing on community-engaged research and community-engaged learning we can accomplish our mission and achieve the outlined goals.

Community Engagement and Community Engaged-Research

Bi-directional learning among community partners, UofC learners, UofC staff, and immigrant and refugee communities.

RISE values community knowledge and expertise, and it responds to community-identified priorities and builds capacity and trust among all parties.

RISE aims to familiarize immigrant and refugee communities with health and wellness concepts, increase awareness and knowledge of effective health promotion, and enhance participant capacity in community engagement.

RISE works with community partners and engage the community in research and solutions to address the community-identified problems.

Community-Engaged Learning

Community-Engaged Learning (CEL) is a tool utilized to bring academic/technical knowledge to practice. It improves learning outcomes and teaches learners to understand and connect with communities deeper. Learners identify self biases and analyze their responses.

Provides a people-centered and experiential learning opportunity for learners to build attributes such as teamwork, collaboration, sharing information and resources, communication, community-engaged research, leadership, and more.
