RISE Against Racism

About the Program

Engaging youth in research and knowledge mobilization activities increases their understanding of multiculturalism, racism, and anti-racism. Immigrant and refugee youth are encouraged to challenge their thoughts and beliefs and critically reflect on how their race, class, gender, ability/disability, sexuality, nationality, culture, or language influence how they act and interact with others.

During RISE for Health and Wellness educational sessions, reflections and focus groups, youth voiced their concerns about prevalent issues of racism and microaggression, the role of society, social media and media propagating racial stereotypes. As a socially responsible group, the RISE for Health and Wellness team wanted to address their concerns and provide youth with the support they need through RISE educational and empowerment sessions and allow youth to become the voice they need to be.

Our goal is to engage and empower immigrant and refugee youth to act as champions for anti-racism actions within their circles and the Canadian community.
