Early Intervention for Young Children with Cerebral Palsy

Welcome

Welcome to our website. We are a team of caregivers, clinicians, and researchers. We designed this site to support early intervention for young children with cerebral palsy. The site has information and resources for caregivers and clinicians, with a focus on hand and arm therapy.

Early Intervention for Cerebral Palsy

Cerebral palsy is caused by brain damage present from early in life that leads to challenges with movement. About two to three children out of every 1,000 children have Cerebral Palsy. Every child has a unique experience. For some children, hand and arm movements can be challenging.

Early intervention is for young children. This site focuses on hand and arm therapy for children younger than two years old.

More information can be found on our Hand Therapy page.

Coaching Caregivers

Early intervention is often delivered at home by caregivers. For home-based therapy, the role of clinicians is to support and coach caregivers in therapy delivery.

More information can be found on our Coaching Caregivers page.

Caregiver-led Therapy

Delivering therapy at home has many potential benefits. It can also seem like a big job. Learning how to engage, challenge, and encourage their child can help caregivers deliver play-based therapy sessions.

More information can be found on our Caregiver-led Therapy page.

Therapy Content

Designing home-based therapy programs requires an understanding of child and family goals, interests, age, and skill level.

More information can be found on our Therapy Content page.

Resources

There are many helpful resources for caregivers and clinicians.
