The University of Calgary Body Donation Program aims to provide those in all fields and levels of healthcare the opportunity to study typical, non-pathological human anatomy in the highest quality setting possible.
For many, the donors in our program are the first patients for those entering the field of healthcare. By ensuring they receive the most realistic training at every stage of education, it is our goal to help educate the highest caliber of professionals.
Donors in the Body Donation Program participate in learning sessions at the ATSSL (Advanced Technical Skills & Simulation Laboratory); a state of the art facility that is equipped with 20 simulated operating room stations in order to give our users the most realistic experience possible.
In addition to Anatomy Instruction for UME and other academic institutes, we support the 18 residency programs the Cumming School of Medicine offers through running labs encompassing a variety of medical skills and procedures such as laparoscopy, arthroscopy, and microsurgery.

Studies last one to six years. The length and type of study is dependent on the current needs of our program and the suitability of the donors.
Upon completion of the study, the expenses of the cremation and, if requested, the interment in the University of Calgary cemetery plot will be covered by the university.
The Body Donation Program contributes to anatomical education across various UCalgary faculties, departments, programs and external groups and institutions including: Southern Alberta Institute of Technology, Mount Royal University, Bow Valley College, Makami College and other industry experts.
