Research Activities
Research projects conducted in my laboratory are focused on understanding the regulation of resistances arterial diameter. Our focus has been to determination of the roles, regulation, properties and molecular basis of potassum and non-selective cation channels in vascular smooth muscle cells; specifically, voltage-gated and ATP-sensitive potassium channels, and transient-receptor potential non-selective cation channel types. More recently our interests have expanded to include an examination of the role in the myogenic response of resistance arteries to transmural pressure of myofilament calcium sensitization resulting from phosphorylation of the targeting subunit of myosin phosphatase.
