Laboratory for Antimicrobial Resistance
Laboratory for Antimicrobial Resistance
Our primary research interest is antimicrobial resistance. Our current work focuses on the molecular detection, characterization, evolution and pathogenicity of multidrug-resistance staphylococci, including Staphylococcus aureus and methicillin-resistant S. aureus (MRSA) - encompassing hospital-associated MRSA (HA-MRSA), the re-emerging community-associated MRSA (CA-MRSA), and livestock-associated MRSA (LA-MRSA), as well as coagulase-negative staphylococci (CoNS).
We are actively involved in the Alberta Health Services (AHS) Antibiotic Resistant Organism (ARO) Program with a mandate to detect, prevent and control AROs in the region.
