Black Youth Mentorship and Leadership Program for Undergraduate Youth

Building on the success of our program and a pilot mentorship program with undergraduate youth in 2022, we will be offering a mentorship and leadership program for Black undergraduate youth in 2024. The purpose of the mentorship program for Black undergraduate youth is to build their capacity and position them for career success in research, professional health science disciplines, and graduate studies.  Black undergraduate youth will gain research experience in the health sciences under the mentorship of a senior graduate student or researcher. In addition to research experience, they will complete workshops on a variety of topics including:

  • Literature review
  • Literature search 
  • Writing for publication
  • Qualitative research in the health sciences
  • Quantitative research in the health sciences
  • Research ethics
  • Leadership 
  • Preparing for graduate school
  • Preparing for professional health science programs
  • Applying for awards and scholarships
  • Career planning and development
