Precision Health Program

Graduate Certificate

In addition to the Faculty of Graduate Studies admission requirements, applicants to the Graduate Certificate in Precision Health must meet the following criteria:

 A four-year baccalaureate degree from a recognized institution in a health-related discipline;

  • A minimum admission grade point average of 3.30 on a four-point scale or equivalent calculated on the last 60 units completed.

Additional Requirements:

  • A Vision Statement (no more than 1000 words) outlining career goals, and how the Precision Health Program will help to achieve them.
  • English Language Requirement. The requirement can be met in one of the following ways:
    • Completion of a three- or four-year degree offered by an accredited university in a country the University of Calgary recognizes as English language proficiency exempt;
      OR
    • Completion of one of the following English Language Tests (NOTE: English language tests result cannot be more than two years old at the time of application):
      • TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language)
        Internet based: score of 105 or higher
        Paper based: score of 600 or higher
      • IELTS (International English Language Testing System)
        Score of 7.5 of higher
      • PTE (Pearson Test of English)
        Score of 75 or higher Score of 75 or higher

Graduate Diploma

In addition to the Faculty of Graduate Studies admission requirements, applicants to the Graduate Diploma in Precision Health must meet the following criteria:

  • Completion of the Graduate Certificate in Precision Health with a GPA of 3.30 or higher.

Master of Precision Health

In addition to the Faculty of Graduate Studies admission requirements, applicants to the Master of Precision Health are required to meet the following criteria:

Specialization: Precision Medicine

  • Completion of the Graduate Diploma in Precision Health with a GPA of 3.30 or higher;
  • Completion of the Graduate Certificate with a sub-specialization in Precision Medicine.

Specialization: Quality and Safety Leadership

  • Completion of the Graduate Diploma in Precision Health with a GPA of 3.30 or higher;
  • Completion of the Graduate Certificate with a sub-specialization in Quality and Safety Leadership.

Specialization: Health Professional Education Leadership

  • Completion of the Graduate Diploma in Precision Health with a GPA of 3.30 or higher;
  • Completion of the Graduate Certificate with a sub-specialization in Health Professional Education Leadership.

Specialization: Innovation and Entrepreneurship

  • Completion of the Graduate Diploma in Precision Health with a GPA of 3.30 or higher;
  • Completion of the Graduate Certificate with a sub-specialization in Innovation and Entrepreneurship.

Additional Requirements:

  • Applicants are required to arrange for the submission of two reference letters. References must follow the guidelines posted on the program’s website for prospective students [ADD HYPERLINK?]. 
  • A current curriculum vitae. 

Future Direct Entry Option

If a direct-entry, full-time option is available in the future, all prospective students who meet the following admission requirements may apply:

  • A four-year baccalaureate degree from a recognized institution in a health-related discipline;
  • A minimum admission grade point average of 3.30 on a four-point scale or equivalent calculated on the last 60 units (20 half-course equivalents) completed.

Additional Requirements:

  • Applicants are required to arrange for the submission of two reference letters. References must follow the guidelines posted on the program’s website for prospective students. 
  • A current curriculum vitae. 
  • A Vision Statement (no more than two pages in length) outlining career goals, and how the Precision Health Program will help to achieve them.
  • English Language Requirement. The requirement can be met in one of the following ways:
    • Completion of a three- or four-year degree offered by an accredited university in a country the University of Calgary recognizes as English language proficiency exempt; or
    • Completion of the University of Calgary’s International Foundations Program. All three tiers must be successfully completed with a grade of 'A'.
      or
    • Completion of one of the following English Language Tests (NOTE: English language tests result cannot be more than two years old at the time of application):
      • TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language)
        Internet based: score of 105 or higher
        Paper based: score of 600 or higher
      • IELTS (International English Language Testing System)
        Score of 7.5 of higher
      • PTE (Pearson Test of English)
        Score of 75 or higher

 

Note: As per Section A.1[1] of the University of Calgary’s Graduate Calendar, in exceptional circumstances, individuals who do not meet formal academic requirements but who have significant life achievements may be considered for admission to this program. The candidate must provide evidence demonstrating the potential to successfully undertake the Master’s program. Such candidates may also be required to participate in an in-person interview with the Associate Dean, Graduate Science Education. In all such cases, the decision whether or not to admit rests with the Dean of the Faculty of Graduate Studies.
