K2I Research Areas

Research done at the K2I lab aims to improve the clinical effectiveness of cancer care through the use of quality improvement and implementation science methodologies.

Areas of Research

The K2I Lab has three main areas of research:

Evidence-Based Surgical Care

Ensuring surgical care is evidence-based can reduce complications and improve recovery for patients and can reduce costs to the healthcare system. The K2I Lab's work aims to optimize surgical care by ensuring surgical care is evidence-based. Surgery is an important treatment for many types of cancer so improving surgical care also improves cancer care.

Head and Neck Cancer

Head and Neck Cancer (HNC) are the seventh most common cancers globally, and the incidence is increasing in Canada. HNC are a group of cancers in the head and neck and include cancer in the mouth or oral cavity (lips, tongue, gums), the throat (pharynx), the voice box (larynx), nasal/sinus cavity, and salivary glands. The K2I Lab, in partnership with the Ohlson Research Initiative, aims to improve the clinical effectiveness of HNC care.

Transitions in Care for Patients with Cancer (CanTiC)

Patients with cancer experience many TiC from diagnosis to survivorship. The K2I Lab has explored TiC among patients with cancer and are now developing evidence-based approaches to improve TiC among patients with cancer.
