What is Mental Health?

According to the Canadian Mental Health Association (http://calgary.cmha.ca/) mental health means balancing all aspects of your life. Sometimes a part of your life falls out of balance and you have to work regain your unique personal balance. The challenge is to stay mentally healthy by maintaining this balance.

Why is it so important to be conscious of this balance when you have diabetes? Research tells us that having a chronic disease (like diabetes) can affect our mental health.

Mental Health Week is a time to celebrate and raise awareness about the many resources and services there are for anyone who may need mental and emotional support. If you are having trouble keeping a healthy balance, we encourage you to contact one of the resources below. If you need help finding resources, contact your diabetes centre Psychosocial Team (e.g., psychologist or social worker)—they will be happy to help you.
