Notification at Time of Death
To notify the University of a death it is imperative that the Program is notified as soon as possible. This may be done by contacting 403-220-6950 and selecting option # 1 when prompted.
A representative from the University of Calgary Body Donation program will assist you with the initial notification process, and inform you of the necessary steps to complete the donation should the acceptance criteria be met.
If death occurs outside regular business hours (8:30 AM-4:00 PM Monday- Friday) your call will be forwarded to Alternative Funeral and Cremation Services who will assist you with the initial notification process, and inform you of the necessary steps to complete the donation should the acceptance criteria be met.
In order to confirm that a potential donation meets our acceptance criteria, we may need to confirm relevant medical history details with the physician of the deceased.
Please be aware that acceptance decisions can only be discussed with executors or immediate family members of the deceased. There are no restrictions in regards to whom can provide the initial notification of death.
Please note that as a condition of acceptance to the program, donations must be received by the program no later than 72-hours following death.
It is recommended that memorial services be planned without the presence of the body.
