Biography

About me

My name is Hanna Bugler and I am originally from Ottawa, Ontario. My undergraduate degree was completed at Carleton University in Biomedical and Electrical Engineering in 2021. I decided to pursue a Biomedical Engineering PhD degree in the Harris Lab and AI^2 Lab as the University of Calgary places a strong emphasis on interdisciplinary collaboration and is a large hub for neuroimaging.

My research

My research seeks to improve the quality of GABA-edited magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS) data. More specifically, using deep learning methods supported by Dr. Souza and the AI^2 Lab, I hope to create tools which can help improve MRS methods (preprocessing and quantification) supported by Dr. Harris and the Harris Lab.

BRAIN CREATE program aspirations

I hope to collaborate with industry through an internship during the BRAIN CREATE program as I believe understanding and bridging the gap between academic research and marketable industry product is vital to continue to improve the healthcare system.

Commercialization

Since the creation of deep learning tools are at the core of my research, many of these have the potential to be used preliminarily in a research context with some future work having the potential to prepare it for clinical use. The use of these tools has the potential to increase the adoption and use of GABA-edited MRS for vital neuroscience research.
