Biography
About me
I hold a bachelor’s degree in exercise health and physiology from the University of Calgary. After working as a research assistant with SHRed concussions for close to a year I decided to pursue a master’s degree in neuroscience. This led me to the Laboratory of Human Cerebrovascular Physiology and the Brain in Motion project which integrates both my interests of neuroscience and kinesiology.
My Research
My masters project which is funded by Mitacs & The Brenda Strafford Foundation focuses on sleep quality of assisted living residents. I mainly focus on sleep disordered breathing and sleep depth to tease out the relationships between sleep, cognitive performance and functional capacity.
My main interests are improving policy related to sleep performance within long term care and assisted care settings. I believe this is a large area of improvement in the care path of our ageing populations and is typically overlooked.
BRAIN CREATE program aspirations.
Through BRAIN CREATE I hope to develop key skills I can apply to commercial settings and develop connections to current industry partners. I have a strong interest in emerging neurotechnologies and health/fitness technologies. I know how powerful the wearable sector will be in the coming years and would be very interested to work with some of the emerging Canadian companies who work in this sector. BRAIN CREATE uniquely opens doors to industry partners which otherwise would not have been accessible and equips me with the required knowledge/skills to succeed in a variety of commercial/industrial settings.
Commercialization
I would like to explore utilizing neurotechnologies to help improve the health and diagnosis of our ageing population as well explore non-pharmacological treatment plans to help improve the health and specifically sleep quality of individuals. I also would like to help inform policy related to care facilities specifically focusing on the sleep environment and sleep habits of residents.
