Biography

About me

My name is Daphne Nakhid and I was born and raised in Toronto, Ontario. I completed a Bachelor of Science with a double major in psychology and biology from Dalhousie University.

My research

I am a third year PhD of neuroscience student at the University of Calgary. I volunteered in the developmental neuroimaging lab with Dr. Catherine Lebel before starting my MSc with Dr. Lebel, co-supervised by Dr. Carly McMorris who runs the Enhance Lab. My research project looks at the relationship between brain and mental health behaviours in adolescents with prenatal alcohol exposure.

BRAIN CREATE program aspirations

The BRAIN CREATE program provides a unique opportunity to collaborate with scientists and industries from around the world, and I am eager to utilize this opportunity. Through the BRAIN CREATE program, I hope to go on academic exchanges to learn from leading scientists in the neuroimaging field.

Commercialization

The effect of prenatal alcohol exposure on brain development and behaviour is not well understood. I hope to develop new protocols to aid in the diagnosis, treatment, and intervention of individuals with prenatal alcohol exposure.
