Terms of Reference for Postdoctoral Fellows (PDFs)

  1. All PDFs will meet with BRAIN CREATE Directors twice per year.
  2. All PDFs will participate in and help organize boot camps for summer / graduate students.
  3. All PDFs must participate in elective program elements amounting to a minimum of 40 hours a year. Elective program elements include but are not limited to ‘elective courses’, academic exchanges and collaborations, Research in Progress, extreme expeditions, technical and professional skills workshops, knowledge translation and innovation workshops, accredited journal clubs, industrial placement and collaborations, and conferences.
  4. PDFs are expected to complete at least one of the following: 1) a provincial, national or international work experience, 2) a work experience/collaboration/internship in an industrial setting, and/or 3) an experience testing technologies and innovation at geographical, biological or environmental extremes. 
  5. PDFs will participate and present their research at provincial, national and international scientific and/or innovation workshops or conferences.
  1. All PDFs will help organize and attend journal clubs each week and make regular presentations.
  2. All PDFs will participate in and/or help organize Research in Progress talks to be held twice a year, and make regular presentations.
  3. All PDFs must belong to and participate in the HBI Trainee Organization.
  4. All PDFs must enroll and participate in HBI REALISE.
  5. Exit seminars by PDFs are mandatory. Attendance is mandatory for all PDFs.
  6. All PDFs must track their participation in all core and elective elements of the program as described above. In addition, all trainees must keep track of all awards applied for and received, publications, conferences, meetings, symposia, poster or other presentations, talks, translational activities, and participation in any other HBI education activities. Trainees are required to report on these activities a minimum of two times per year.
