Meet our Fellows

Our fellowship is a tight knit family and we are each other's biggest cheerleaders. They come from a mixed background of pediatrics or emergency medicine residency programs. Learn more about our current crew!

Michelle

Michelle Fric

Michelle is from Calgary so she couldn’t be happier to be starting her PEM fellowship in her hometown. She completed undergrad at Western University, then went onto medical school at the University of Alberta, before moving back to Calgary where she completed her pediatrics residency.  Being from Calgary, Michelle loves being able to go to family dinner every Sunday night at her parents’ house. She also values her time spent in Calgary’s beautiful parks, walking her two babies: Maggie the black lab and Sophie the Cavapoo puppy. She is always planning her next trip and happy to offer free travel consultations after her recent African Safari.

Keon

Keon Ma

Keon is a native Calgarian and one of the incoming first year fellows. After completing medical school in Edmonton, he came back to Calgary for pediatric residency, and is excited to join the PEM family here in his home town! In his free time, he plays on a volleyball team, inspired after watching the anime Haikyuu. He enjoys being a homebody just as much as he is open to new adventures with his church, family and friends. When he is not outdoors or gardening, he can be found adding to his collection of houseplants, and is always down to share cuttings and plant babies.

Duncan

Duncan Simmons

Duncan was born and (mostly) raised in Calgary and couldn’t be more excited to be one of the incoming PEM fellows! After heading to Kingston to complete his undergrad and Edmonton for medical school he returned to Calgary for his residency in Emergency Medicine.  Outside of work, Duncan loves to ski, bike, cook, play volleyball, make obscure pop culture references from his childhood, and spend quality time with his wife Madi and their dog, Hugo.

Meagan

Meagan Roy

Meagan was born and raised in Northern Ontario. She is the youngest of three, and moved to Calgary for her pediatric residency after completing medical school at the Northern Ontario School of Medicine University. Meagan is excited to be part of the PEM family after her elective as a fourth-year medical student sparked her interest in the field, though it will be a different experience with her four children in tow! Her Métis roots call her to be outside, which she does every chance she gets to bike, hike, ski, or exist in nature. She is an avid reader, and will always make time for a chat about recent reads. Current book recommendation: Mad Honey by Jodi Picoult.
