Meet our Fellows
Our fellowship is a tight knit family and we are each other's biggest cheerleaders. They come from a mixed background of pediatrics or emergency medicine residency programs. Learn more about our current crew!

Julia Madill
Julia was born and raised in Edmonton, AB. She completed a Bachelor of Science in Nursing at the University of Alberta and worked as a Registered Nurse in the NICU at the Foothills Medical Centre prior to starting medical school in Calgary. She completed her residency in Emergency Medicine, and is thrilled to be staying in Calgary for her PEM fellowship! Academically, Julia is interested in medical education, quality improvement, and transport medicine. Outside of medicine, Julia loves to dance, hike, travel, and read. In her spare time you can find Julia at the dog park with her dog Rosie, or exploring a new local restaurant with her friends!

Sierra Casey
Sierra grew up in Edmonton. After spending four years at UBC Vancouver taking advantage of the cheap student ski passes at Whistler-Blackcomb, she made the trek back to University of Alberta in Edmonton for both medical school and General Pediatrics residency. While she will never be able to cheer for the Calgary Flames, (lets go Oilers!), she looks forward to spending more time in the mountains near Calgary ski touring and mountain biking. When not in the Emergency Department or in the mountains, she plans to join a local run club and check out all the bouldering gyms and breweries that Calgary has to offer.

Duncan Simmons
Duncan was born and (mostly) raised in Calgary and couldn’t be more excited to be one of the incoming PEM fellows! After heading to Kingston to complete his undergrad and Edmonton for medical school he returned to Calgary for his residency in Emergency Medicine. Outside of work, Duncan loves to ski, bike, cook, play volleyball, make obscure pop culture references from his childhood, and spend quality time with his wife Madi and their dog, Hugo.

Meagan Roy
Meagan was born and raised in Northern Ontario. She is the youngest of three, and moved to Calgary for her pediatric residency after completing medical school at the Northern Ontario School of Medicine University. Meagan is excited to be part of the PEM family after her elective as a fourth-year medical student sparked her interest in the field, though it will be a different experience with her four children in tow! Her Métis roots call her to be outside, which she does every chance she gets to bike, hike, ski, or exist in nature. She is an avid reader, and will always make time for a chat about recent reads. Current book recommendation: Mad Honey by Jodi Picoult.
