Fellowship Programs: Interventional Neuroradiology

The Interventional Neuroradiology fellowship is a one or two-year program jointly run by the departments of Neurosurgery and Radiology. The program covers all aspects of diagnostic and therapeutic endovascular procedures for vascular pathologies of the brain and spine.

Approximately, 700 patients with neurovascular disease are seen yearly for evaluation and follow-up. Currently over 200 patients are treated annually via minimally invasive endovascular means such as endovascular coiling, therapeutic embolization, and carotid stenting. We are an internationally recognized centre providing state-of-the-art endovascular stroke treatment. As well, surgical volumes and expertise in open neurosurgery have been maintained with the availability of specialized procedures such as aneurysm clipping, carotid endarterectomy, resection of vascular malformations, and extracranial-intracranial artery bypass.

Fellows in the program participate in all diagnostic angiography procedures and assist in all neurointerventional cases, with gradual progression towards performing procedures as first operators.

Teaching during procedures, including pre-procedure evaluations and post-procedure care is supplemented by participation in the outpatient neurovascular, clinics and neurovascular case rounds. There are also weekly clinical rounds held in conjunction with the stroke service.
