Training Programs and Electives

We offer a one year interventional pulmonary medicine fellowship in Calgary.

The fellowship offers advanced clinical training in diagnostic and therapeutic bronchoscopy, as well as in the management of pleural disease and thoracic complications of malignancy.

Participation in research relating to these areas of pulmonary medicine is expected during the training period.  An option for an additional year of research training is available.

Candidates will have completed a 2-year Respiratory Medicine training program, will have obtained Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada certification in Internal Medicine and be eligible for licensure in Alberta. This requires the completion of the Canadian LMCC exams.  Unfortunately we are unable to accommodate trainees that have not obtained these certifications.

Responsibilities will include call on the FMC Respirology Service every Wednesday evening and one Friday/Sunday per month.

We will accept applications for the Fellowship until November 1st, for the next training period starting July 1st of the following year.  This requires 3 reference letters (one of which must be from the pulmonary training program director), a current CV and a letter of intent.  Please contact Dr. Sarah Hosseini for further details on the fellowship program and application process. sarah.hosseini@ucalgary.ca

Non-Canadian Trained Applicants

Unfortunately, a fellowship position for physicians who do not hold the LMCC certification (Canadian Exams) and Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada certification in Internal Medicine and be eligible for licensure in Alberta is not available.

Visiting Pulmonary Fellow Electives

A one month elective in IPM at the University of Calgary is offered to visiting pulmonary fellows, in October each year.  This is a competitive elective (we only offer one per year), and requires that a current CV, letter of intent and reference letter be sent to Dr. Sarah Hosseini by February 1st each year for the following October elective.  The candidate is chosen and informed usually by mid February.
