Students at Risk Team

8:30-4:30 Monday - Friday

SAR@ucalgary.ca or by calling 403-220-4923

The Student at Risk Team is a multi-disciplinary group on campus that responds to concerns about students. The team is available to help other students, faculty, staff and postdoctoral scholars in responding to concerns about a student.

When a student is identified as being at risk, the team conducts an assessment for risk of violence, and engages with an identified student as early as possible to minimize the potential for harm.

Why contact the Student at Risk Team?

If you're concerned about a student and think they might be at risk of harming them self or others, let the Student at Risk Team know.

They can help by:

  • Making sure the student receives necessary support.
  • Preventing the situation from escalating.
  • Providing a multi-disciplinary approach to the student's situation.

Mobile Response Teams (MRT) & Police and Crisis Team (PACT):

24 hour/7 days a week

What is PACT / MRT teams? The PACT teams consist of a mental health professional and a specially trained police officer. The mobile response teams are made up of mental health professionals. These teams respond to emergencies when having just a police officer simply does not make sense.

PACT (Police and Crisis Team) is a partnership between Alberta Health Services (AHS) and Calgary Police Service (CPS) that responds to situations involving individuals experiencing a mental health, addictions, or psycho-social crisis.

PACT offers mental health assessment, support, and/or consultation in crisis situations from AHS and CPS. They can arrange urgent psychiatry assessments and referrals as needed. The main goals are:

  • divert individuals who are in crisis with mental illness and addiction issues, from the justice system and hospital emergency departments
  • assess and stabilize individuals in crisis within the community
  • connect individuals with resources and supports
