2024-2025 Buddy Profiles
Claire (4th year BMSC): I remember my first year of the program, and how nice it was to have a senior buddy to guide me through my first year in the Bachelor of Health Science program. Coincidentally, my senior buddy also ended up being one of my TAs for my MDSC 508 Thesis class. The program and all of the students, regardless of the year, are so interconnected, and I think that is what makes the program so unique. As a student, you never feel alone, and there are always other students around to help and support you; a perfect example is the BHSc Buddy Program. Now that I am in my fourth year, being able to return the favour and give back by being a senior buddy has been incredibly rewarding. I have enjoyed getting to know Gabby, and it has been incredible to see her grow as a student throughout her first year. Mentoring Gabby has also allowed me to reflect on my first year of university and see just how far I have come over the past four years. From talking about school, future career options, or just life in general, Gabby and I now share a connection that will last beyond this school year. Gabby is kind, caring and is constantly determined to be the best she can be. I know she will do amazing things in this world, and I cannot wait to see where she ends up!
Gabby (1st year BMSC): In my first year of Biomedical Sciences, I have been exposed to different classes, teachers, and people who have challenged my way of thinking and studying. While there have been many challenges to overcome, I have never felt alone or incapable of doing so. This program has given me friends who push me to work harder than I thought I could and who are always there when things do not go my way. I am excited to keep being pushed to my full potential in this program. However, an incredibly crucial part of my success has been my buddy, Claire! Every time I have any type of concern, she is always there, eager to help and extremely supportive. I have a great role model to follow who is smart, dedicated, and genuinely lovely, who reaches out constantly and reminds me that I am not alone in my academic career. I know she will accomplish anything she sets her mind to and I am determined to follow and aspire for her work ethic and success.
