Frequently asked Questions

What happens to COMPLETE applications?

  • COMPLETE applications will be sent to the appropriate radiology subspecialty committee for further assessment. After this stage, the subspecialty committee's will decide upon whether or not to grant the applicant an interview.
  • Once interviews are completed and the subspecialty committee has met, applicants will be advised of decisions of offer or rejection.
  • Rejected applicants who are not offered an interview can reapply, however, the entire application must be resubmitted using the web application form as we do not store rejected applications or reference letters for candidates who are not offered interviews.
  • Rejected applicants who have completed an interview  or those who have declined an offer of a fellowship position will be able to reapply without resubmission of reference letters but are required to resubmit the web application form with updated CV and Personal Letter as long as the reapplication is made within 2 years of the original submission.  Beyond this time period, an entirely new application with resubmission of reference letters is required.
  • Successful applicants who are offered a fellowship position will be notified in writing and will be given a limited time frame to accept or decline the offer.
  • Once written confirmation of acceptance of the fellowship position is received, applications will be submitted to Postgraduate Medical Education (PGME) at the University of Calgary. The PGME office will provide further instructions regarding making an application for a work permit, educational licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA) and applying for liability coverage with the Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA).

Are there application deadlines?

  • The University of Calgary Radiology Fellowship program has different deadlines for Canadian Medical Graduates and International Medical Graduates because of the amount of time required to process applications with respect to work-permits and CPSA licensure and offers are made on a rolling basis for fellowship program start times of July 01 for a given year.
  • For applicants who are graduates of Canadian Medical Schools and Canadian Residency programs, applications should be received at least 10-12 months prior to July 01 of the year for which the application is being made.
  • For applicants who are graduates of International Medical Schools and International Residency programs, applications should be received at least 18-24 months prior to July 01 of the year for which the application is being made.
  • Offers of admission to the University of Calgary Radiology Fellowship Program are made on a rolling basis, hence those who apply early are at an advantage over those who apply later in the application cycle.
