The IMRP research program supports residents who have a range of research experience and interest. 

Our academic half day research curriculum ensures that residents have the foundational knowledge in quality improvement, epidemiology and biostatistics required for the Royal College exam. Additional, advanced courses in research methods and statistics are available through the University of Calgary's Department of Community Health Sciences and Health Sciences Library. Residents interested earning advanced degrees during residency (Masters, PhD, or post-doctoral training) can enroll in the Clinical Investigator Program .

Department of Medicine researchers are internationally recognized for their work in a diverse range of topics, including medical education, quality improvement and patient safety, basic sciences, clinical trials, wellness, and equity and diversity research. The IMRP offers "Resident Research Speed Dating" early in the R1 year so that residents can meet and network with clinician researchers. Residents are offered up to three research blocks during their training to complete a scholarly project. Many residents successful publish or present results from their resident research projects during their core training.
