MDCH Program Specific Awards

Subject to availability of departmental scholarship funding received yearly from the Faculty of Graduate Studies, MSc and PhD students shall be eligible for the following funding opportunities provided they are meeting program requirements in a timely manner. 

Students may also be eligible for awards offered by the following: 

• Faculty of Graduate Studies
• Graduate Science Education Office

Supervisor's research institute - please check with your Research Institute for available funding opportunities

Registered students within the MDCH graduate program are eligible to receive one (1) travel award per year to a maximum of $1,000. Preference will be given to students presenting an abstract, poster or other oral presentation at the conference. If you are not presenting at the conference, you will need to provide a brief description of the value you will receive from attending.

Students must be registered in the term in which they travel and travel must be completed before the student defends their thesis.

Students apply for the award after they return from the conference. Funds will not be paid until travel is completed and final receipts are provided to the program administrator.

Failure to provide full documentation may result in a reduction or cancellation of the amount of funding received.

In order to apply, attach your abstract to the Travel Award Form and forward it to the GPA at chsgrad@ucalgary.ca. 

Students must have completed travel and provide supporting documentation in order to receive their award. Terms and conditions are outlined on the travel award form.

Other awards:

First Author Publication Award form

Registered students within the MDCH graduate program are eligible to receive one (1) 1st Author Publication Award per year. Only peer-reviewed research articles are eligible for this award. Students must be registered in the term in which the publication is accepted.  The award amount is $250 for 1st author publications. Students must provide the following documentation with their application. :  

1. Copy of manuscript submitted to the publisher.

2. Notification of acceptance or cover page of published article.

All documents should be scanned and emailed to chsgrad@ucalgary.ca. Failure to provide full documentation may result in a cancellation of the amount of funding received. Please note, submission of an application does not guarantee you an award. Students must submit the attached application by the second Monday of each month.
