New Student Checklists & Information
Welcome to Graduate Science Education! Here is a guide on starting your graduate student journey.
To Do After Accepting Offer of Admission
- Initialize your registration – this will activate you as a graduate student. See Registration Initialization Job Aid
- Inform your supervisor that you have accepted your offer of admission. Remind them to set up the financial support payment for you (if applicable)
- Register for courses – MSc students need to take a minimum of 2 half courses, PhD students minimum of 3 half courses. Discuss your course plan with your supervisor. (MDCH students please review your specialization requirements for required courses.)
First Week At School
- Open Canadian bank account (International Students)
- Set up direct deposit
- Get Student ID Card (UNICARD)
- Set up UPASS
- Review Getting Started for Students from IT (IT Accounts, Office 365, Desire2Learn, Campus Wi-Fi, and MyUofC Portal Access). Note that all communications will go to your Ucalgary email address.
- International Students - send a copy of your study permit to hrhire@ucalgary.ca
Second Week at School
- Optional - Apply for Payment Plan – breaks down fee payments into monthly payments (apply by fee deadline)
- Optional – Opt out of Health and Dental Plans if you have alternate coverage (form due by fee deadline)
- Pay tuition and general fees by fee deadline (deadline is dependent on whether you have applied for a payment plan or not)
