Biography

Dr. Kjersti Mevik is a visiting scholar at the Data Intelligence for Health Lab where she will be conducting research on increasing the quality of surgical patient care. Using AI combined with clinical knowledge she will examine methods of identifying and avoiding adverse events.

She received her medical degree at UIT the Arctic University of Norway, Tromsø and completed her residency at the University Hospital of Northern Norway, Tromsø. She is a senior physician in breast and endocrine surgery at the Nordland Hospital trust in Bodø and she holds a PhD in health science from UIT The Arctic University of Norway, Tromsø. Her thesis investigated how to identify adverse events by using machine learning techniques. She holds a post-doctoral fellowship in health science which brought her to the University of Calgary.

She is a mother of three daughters whom she spends her spare time together exploring the Rocky Mountains by foot, bike or ski.
