Biography
Dr. Allison Brown is an Associate Professor (tenured) at the Cumming School of Medicine in the Department of Medicine and Department of Community Health Sciences. She is a currently a member of the O'Brien Institute for Public Health (OIPH) and a consultant for the Office of Health and Medical Education Scholarship (OHMES). Dr. Brown completed a PhD in Community Health Sciences at the University of Calgary (specializing in Medical Education) in 2020 and a MSc in Health Research Methods at McMaster University in 2017.
Dr. Brown is an applied social scientist who has over 50 publications to date. She is a pragmatic and generalist scholar given her diverse range of methodological expertise in quantitative, qualitative, and mixed methods research as well as her expertise in psychometrics (measurement), assessment, program evaluation, and improvement science. Her areas of interests in medical education are dynamic and eclectic, including:
- Social accountability
- Critical pedagogy and transformative teaching
- Social justice (including equity, diversity, and inclusion)
- Quality improvement and patient safety
- Competency-based medical education
