Inclusive Hiring and Selection Course

Diversity and inclusion are essential for driving excellence and innovation in healthcare, education, and research. The Cumming School of Medicine (CSM) is committed to cultivating a culture that values diverse perspectives, fosters a strong sense of belonging, and reflects the community that we serve. 

This Inclusive Hiring and Selection Course is designed to provide you with best practices and resources that you can embed throughout all stages of the hiring process to help make the CSM an equitable, diverse, and inclusive place to learn and work.  

Learning Objectives: 

At the end of the course, you will be able to:  

  • Understand the importance of equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility (EDIA) and their role in contributing to excellence at the Cumming School of Medicine 
  • Understand the most common types of bias in found in the hiring process and strategies to reduce the impact of individual bias ad through various stages of the hiring process.  
  • Apply best practices for forming committees, defining roles, and managing conflicts of interest. 
  • Develop inclusive job descriptions and advertising strategies  
  • Integrate EDIA principles into screening, interviewing, deliberations, and onboarding processes. 

Intended audience: any UCalgary member involved in any part of the hiring and selection process.

Course Format: Self paced on D2L  

We estimate that it will take you about 90 minutes to complete this course.
