Black Child and Youth Wellbeing Conference and Summer Institute
The experiences of Black children and youth cut across multiple systems including the health system, educational system, criminal justice system, and child welfare system. Addressing the health and well-being of Black children and youth must attend to structural and social determinants, including racism, and capitalize on the strengths of Black communities. A United Nations report calls for data and participatory approaches with Black communities to improve their outcomes. The Transforming the Lives of Black Children and Youth project seeks to engage with, and build the capacity of Black communities, trainees, youth, parents, researchers, and policy stakeholders to improve the health and well-being of Black children and youth. The project’s partnership with Black communities and diverse policy stakeholders strengthens its approach to improving the overall outcomes of the lives of Black children and youth in Canada.
