The Office of CME&PD is committed to increasing revenues, containing program costs, and increasing the breadth of engagements in order to achieve and maintain long-term sustainability.
Excellence in Education
The Office of CME&PD is committed to ensuring that both CME-owned and co-developed courses meet the new National Standards and our own CME 2020 course standards.
Community Engagement
The Office of CME&PD is committed to increasing engagement with healthcare teams by developing an Interprofessional Education (IPE) strategy, implementing IPE courses, and developing Team-Based Effectiveness activities. The Office of CME&PD is also committed to strengthening ties with key stakeholders in order to align with their goals and respond to the needs of the healthcare workforce in the province.
Scholarship
The Office of CME&PD is committed to sustaining an active track record in scholarship, by engaging stakeholders in advancing the science of CME and CB-CPD and incorporating opportunities for educational research into existing needs assessment, program evaluation, physician learning and assessment activities.
Mission
To provide and coordinate integrated academic educational and assessment activities and resources that promote lifelong learning for healthcare professionals for excellence in clinical practice focused on improving health outcomes.
Core Activities
Educational Programing
Support physician groups in developing rigorous, evidence-based educational programs for physicians’ professional development
Advance the field in continuing medical education by developing innovative educational approaches for physician and health professional learning, assessment and research
Engage experts in an academic setting to provide state of the art, experiential learning opportunities for physicians in Alberta
Develop internal programming and review external applications to accredit professional development activities for physicians on behalf of the Royal College of Physician and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC) and the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC)
Support physician self-assessment and feedback through the Physician Learning Program (PLP) and remediation through Alberta Physician Assessment Support Services (APASS)
Conduct educational research and develop educational innovations focused on physician learning, program evaluation, self-assessment, and physician performance assessment
