Course Overview
This course provides updates on clinical topics relevant for physicians, nurses and other health professionals who practice in rural communities. Through a combination of plenary lectures, small group interactive sessions and workshops, participants will review current best practices, guidelines, tools and techniques for investigating and managing emergent patients – from pre-hospital, to the rural emergency department.

Course Overview
This course is designed to learn hands-on skills to deal with common fractures and dislocations seen in the rural emergency departments. The course will include short case-based presentations on specific fractures, a discussion of diagnosis and treatment, demonstration of the applicable cast and/or splint and hands-on practice. The morning will focus on fractures and dislocation of the upper limbs and the afternoon will focus on the lower limbs. Participants will practice on each other, including applying splints and casts. (Appropriate attire is recommended.).

Course Overview
This program aims to update practitioners in a wide variety of areas of Rheumatology relevant to general practice including: lupus, spondyloarthropathy, rheumatologic emergencies, and investigations. New additions include an approach to Fibromyalgia. Back by popular demand a physical exam and joint aspiration sessions. Updated session including COVID-19 vaccinations and treatment as well as medication management in the COVID-19 patient with rheumatic disease. Registration is limited.

This course is facilitated by cardiologists from the University of Calgary Cardiac Sciences. The online self-learning activities include a series of podcasts, related questions with real-world examples of patient ECGs and interpretation exercises. The highlight of the face-to-face day is facilitated case discussions with interactive small group discussions.

- Correctly determine rate, rhythm and axis on ECG
- Diagnose left and right ventricular hypertrophy on ECG
- Identify findings suggestive of ischemia on ECG
- Correctly diagnose myocardial infarction on ECG including whether acute, subacute or old
- Accurately diagnose atrial and ventricular tachyarrhythmias
- Diagnose bradycardia
- Identify pacemaker activity on ECG and determine if pacemaker function appears normal
- Identify ST and T wave changes seen in common non-cardiac presentations such as: pulmonary embolism, electrolyte abnormalities, drug effect and CNS events
