MDSC Program Specific Awards

The Medical Science Graduate Program has funds allocated annually from the Faculty of Graduate Studies as well as the Cumming School of Medicine, based upon enrollment numbers. The funding that is allocated includes units of Faculty of Graduate Studies (FGS) awards.  These awards are only available to students receiving funding from their supervisors (3rd Party or self-funded students are not eligible).

There are 3 ways in which students can receive scholarship funding from these sources:

1. Students paying full program fees:

Scholarships are paid to all Medical Science MSc and PhD students paying FULL program fees (award and non award holders). Students that qualify will be paid on the first anniversary date of their enrollment in the Medical Science graduate program and at the end of each anniversary year when full program fees are paid.   All program requirements must be met for students to be eligible for this award.  

Students who began their program Spring 2020 and later:
Tuition fees have been standardized across all years, so there is no longer a shift from full to continuing fees.
MSc students will receive a PSA payment at the end of each anniversary year for 2 years; PhD students will receive a PSA payment at the end of each anniversary year for 4 years. 

All program requirements must be met for students to be eligible for this award.  


2. Academic Productivity

Scholarships are paid to MSc and PhD students based on academic productivity. The student must show proof of a 1st author, peer-reviewed paper that is directly related to the student's degree program. The amount available is $250 per application.

Priority is given to first time applicants in any year of his/her program. To apply, forward a Medical Science Program Specific Award form. and a notification or acceptance from the publisher or the cover page of the published article. Applications must be received during the time the student is enrolled in the program. 

All program requirements must be met for students to be eligible for this award. 


3. Conference or Scientific Meeting Support

Scholarships are paid to MSc and PhD students presenting at an international conference or scientific meeting. The amount available is $500-$1500 per application.

Priority is given to first time applicants in any year of his/her program. To apply, forward a Medical Science Program Specific Award Form along with proof of registration and a letter of acknowledgement from the organizers attesting that your paper, abstract, or other project has been accepted for presentation. Applications must be received while the student is enrolled in the program.
