International, Visiting, or Exchange Students
If your studies were outside of Canada you will need to check the FGS Admission Requirements for your country of study to determine if you meet the minimum academic requirements for admission.
If you come to Canada on a temporary basis for the purpose of pursuing an accredited course of study, you are considered an International Student.
If you have been granted Permanent Residency or have become a Canadian Citizen, you are considered a Domestic Student.

Academic Requirements
You must hold a four-year undergraduate degree from an accredited university for admission to a master's level program. PhD applicants must hold an MSc degree. Direct-entry to the PhD program from a bachelor’s level program should be discussed with the program administrator.
Decisions to accept applicants with a three-year degree are done on a case by case basis. Contact the program administrator for details.
Grade Point Average (GPA)

Master of Science
- BSc degree or equivalent
- A minimum admission grade point average of 3.30 (on the University of Calgary four-point system; equivalent to a "B+") based on the last two years of the undergraduate degree consisting of a minimum of 60 units (10 full-course equivalents).

Doctor of Philosophy
- MSc degree, or relevant master’s degree, recognized by the Faculty of Graduate Studies, or transfer from MSc program, or, in exceptional cases, BSc degree or equivalent.
- A minimum admission grade point average of 3.30 (on the University of Calgary four-point system; equivalent to a "B+") based on the last two years of the undergraduate degree consisting of a minimum of 60 units (10 full-course equivalents) and any master’s course work if applicable.

Questions regarding admission with a GPA below 3.3 should be directed to the Program Administrator.
English Language Requirement
You must demonstrate English language proficiency.
The English Language Requirement can be met in one of the following ways:
- Completion of a three- or four-year degree offered by an accredited university in a country the University of Calgary recognizes as English language proficiency exempt; or
- Completion of the University of Calgary’s International Foundations Program. All three tiers must be successfully completed with a grade of 'A'.
- Completion of one of the following English Language Tests (NOTE: English language tests result cannot be more than two years old when you apply):

Community Health Sciences (MDCH) - Master of Disability and Community Studies (MDCS):
A minimum of three years work/life experience related to this field.
NOTE: This program is currently not accepting students.

Biomedical Technology (MDBT):
To have a competitive application, applicants should have courses in the following subject areas. You do not need to have the exact course name/number listed below, but should have taken a course(s) in these subjects:
- BIOL 311 (Genetics) or MDSC 341 (Human Genetics)
- BIOL 331 (Cellular & Molecular Biology) or MDSC 351 (Honours Cellular & Molecular Biology)
- BCEM 393 (Biochemistry)
And senior level (300-400 level/3rd or 4th year level), specialty courses in two of the following topic areas:
- Microbiology
- Immunology
- Pharmacology
- Physiology
Students without the above recommended courses may still apply to the program, but are reminded that applications to the MBT program are competitive and that missing any of the recommended courses may reduce that applications competitiveness.
Programs offered through the Graduate Science Education Office do not require GRE scores for admission purposes.
Individual supervisors may require these scores. You will need to discuss this issue individually with any prospective supervisors.
